Lawn Treatment That Is Safe Around Dogs and Kids

“Pet safe” is not a regulated phrase. Anybody can print it on a truck. So the useful question is not whether a company says it, it is what they actually put down and how long the dog has to stay off it. Here is how to get a straight answer out of anyone, including us.

What we use on Athens lawns

Turf Haven treats with biological products chosen to be safe around pets and kids. That is the whole reason the program is built the way it is, and it is the reason the eight-visit schedule works the way it does: smaller, more frequent applications instead of one heavy one.

The program covers weed control, fertilization and soil enrichment across the season, for lawns in Athens and Limestone County.

The re-entry window, in plain words

Re-entry is the time between the treatment going down and the dog being allowed back on the grass. It exists because a wet application can transfer onto paws and fur. Once the treated surface is dry, that transfer route is mostly closed.

Every product has its own number and it is printed on the label. Ask for it. Ask us for it. A company that will not give you a specific answer for the specific thing they sprayed on your specific lawn is telling you something.

If your dog eats grass, say so

Some dogs graze. That is a different conversation than a dog that walks across the yard twice a day, because eating treated grass is not the same exposure as standing on it, and the honest answer changes.

Tell whoever treats your lawn. It changes what should go down, where, and how long you keep the dog off. Nobody can account for it if nobody knows.

Four questions for any lawn company in Athens

  • What exactly are you putting on my lawn? A name, not a category. “Weed control” is a category.
  • How long until my dog can go back out? A number, from the label.
  • Does it change if my dog eats grass? If the answer is no, they did not understand the question.
  • What happens if weeds come back before the next visit? Ours is free unlimited service calls. You call, we come back, there is no second invoice.

Common questions

Is lawn treatment safe for dogs?

It depends entirely on the product and on keeping off the lawn until it is dry. We use biological products selected to be safe around pets and kids, and we will give you the re-entry window for your application rather than a general reassurance.

What about kids and bare feet?

Same rule and the same reasoning. Off the grass until it is dry.

Do I have to be home for the treatment?

No. Just make sure the gate is open and the dog is inside, and we will let you know when we are done and when the yard is clear.

Is a pet-safe program less effective on weeds?

It is a different approach rather than a weaker one. The program runs eight visits a year instead of a couple of heavy ones, which is how it stays on top of weed pressure across a full Athens, Alabama season.

Ask us the questions

We treat lawns in Athens, Alabama and the towns around it: Athens, Decatur, Madison, Priceville, Tanner and Hartselle. Request a free quote or call 256-938-7188 and ask about the products before you agree to anything.

What we do not do: We do not treat termites or bed bugs, and we do not do wildlife removal. If that is the call you need to make, we will tell you so instead of selling you a lawn program.
