Mosquito and Pest Control in Athens, Alabama That Is Safe Around Pets and Kids

The question underneath this one is usually “can my dog go back in the yard.” The answer is yes, after it dries, and that is true of every legitimate mosquito treatment. What separates companies is whether they will tell you the number off the label or just say “totally safe” and change the subject.

How barrier treatment works, and where it goes

Mosquito control is a barrier treatment. It goes on the places adult mosquitoes rest during the day, which is the underside of leaves, shrubs, fence lines, shaded low foliage and the dark side of the house. It is not sprayed across open lawn, and it is not sprayed where the dog sleeps or where the kids play.

Understanding that changes the safety question. The treated surfaces are mostly places nobody touches. The grass in the middle of the yard, the deck, the swing set, the water bowl are not targets.

The rule, in one line

Stay off the treated areas until they are dry. Wet application can transfer onto paws, fur and bare feet. Once it is dry, that route is mostly closed. That is the entire practical safety rule and anyone who gives you a longer answer is either selling or stalling.

Every product has its own re-entry time printed on the label. Ask for it before we treat, and we will give you the number for the specific product going on your yard instead of a general reassurance. That is the standard, and you should hold every company in Athens to it, including us.

Things worth telling us before we come

  • A dog that eats grass or chews on shrubs. Different exposure than walking through the yard, and it changes where we treat.
  • A vegetable garden or fruit trees. We work around them. We need to know they are there.
  • A pond, a fountain or a stock tank. Fish and aquatic life get a wide margin.
  • Beehives, yours or a neighbor’s. Timing and placement both change.
  • Someone in the house with a respiratory condition. Say so, and we will schedule around it.

Standing water is the free half

Mosquitoes breed in still water and it takes shockingly little of it. A saucer under a flower pot, a sagging tarp, a clogged gutter, a kid’s wagon that filled up in the last storm. A bottle cap of water is enough.

Dumping those out every few days costs nothing and no chemistry involved at all. We will point out what we see when we are there. It is the part of mosquito control that does not require a company.

Pest control around the house

The same standard applies to the home pest program. Perimeter treatment goes on the foundation line, around door thresholds, window frames, weep holes and eaves, which is where insects come in from the outside. Same rule: off it until it dries. Same offer: ask us for the label and we will read it to you.

Common questions

Is mosquito spraying safe for dogs?

Yes, once the treated foliage is dry. The treatment targets resting surfaces on shrubs and fence lines rather than open lawn, so most of what a dog walks on is never sprayed. Keep the dog inside during application and until it dries, and ask for the specific re-entry time on the product being used.

Is it safe for kids to play in the yard after?

Same rule and same reason. Once it is dry. Play equipment is not a treatment target.

Will it hurt bees or butterflies?

Blooming plants are where pollinators are, so blooming plants are avoided or treated with care and timing. Tell us where your flowers are and where any hives are.

How often does mosquito control need to be done?

Roughly every three weeks through the season, about ten treatments. Pricing on the mosquito control cost page.

What if the mosquitoes come back before the next visit?

Call us and we come back. Free unlimited service calls are part of the program.

What we do not do: We do not fog the whole yard and we do not treat open lawn. Mosquitoes rest in shade, so that is where the product goes.
